Michele Bachmann Defends HPV Vaccine Comments, Gay Marriage Stance On ‘Tonight Show’ With Jay Leno

The issue is that it is not in the public interest for enough people to exercise the “right” not to vaccinate so that we have an epidemic and lots of people die. Often the ones who die are not the ones who were irresponsibly not immunized, but those who for health reasons could not be.

South Dakota Leading the way on Abortion

Following up after positive national response to a plan to allow any relative, employer, or employee of a woman to murder an abortion provider to prevent the woman from having an abortion, legislators in the state of South Dakota have introduced a bill that they predict would end abortion in the state once and for all.

Representative Goldurn Beezus, sponsor of the bill, when asked for a comment released the following statement through his office:

“Abortion is a huge problem in American today. The ease with which women can get abortions simply means that for the majority of American women, abortion is the primary means of birth control they use, and all of those abortions are paid for by tax dollars. This is unacceptable. It goes against the laws of nature. Women were intended by God to be breeding vessels. Instead, liberal women lay awake at night planning pregnancies so they can abort, and they hold parties to celebrate each abortion their teenage daughters have. Most liberal women have dozens of abortions during their reproductive years, many at full term, killing sweet, innocent babies eager to become proud American patriots.

“Meanwhile, lazy, shiftless Hispanic, black, and Indian women refuse to use any form of birth control because the government won’t provide it to them for free, and Planned Parenthood pays them to have abortions at luxury resorts at the taxpayer’s expense.

“If God had wanted women to lead lives outside the home, he wouldn’t have made it so easy for men to knock them up when men are tempted beyond their ability to resist. These women should just keep their legs shut, as God intended.

“These women have been getting away with murder for decades, having sex without being caught by pregnancy and struck down by disease. They have managed to avoid lives of poverty raising their bastard kids while working and taking jobs away from white men. It’s time for somebody to do the right thing. Here in South Dakota we have morals. We’re going to make sure we end abortion in this lifetime.”

The bill would classify as “justifiable homicide” any murder of a woman who has had an abortion or might have one in the future. Owing to the difficulty a third party might have of determining whether she had had an abortion without access to the woman’s medical records, and the even harder task of predicting which women would be going to have one in the future, the exemption would apply in almost all cases, as anyone who sincerely believed that a woman had had an abortion or might have one in the future would be entirely justified in killing her on the spot.

An anonymous Republican Senator in Washington was quoted as saying, “I understood this might cause difficulties for some people at first, but I’m sure that the bill does not go far enough in ending taxpayer abortion financing.” When reminded that the bill is not about abortion financing, he admitted he hadn’t read it and wasn’t familiar with what was in it, but added, “I don’t need to read something to know what’s right.”

When asked how it would impact the future population of South Dakota if all women of reproductive age were murdered in retribution for assumed prior abortions or to prevent future ones, the person answering the phone in Rep. Goldurn’s office refused to identify himself and said they would have no further comments.

Such sad crocodile tears

Something must be sad, otherwise why would John Boehner be crying so much?

Hint: crocodiles are green, not orange.

Jimmy Fallon hit it out of the park on this one.

Or maybe it’s because John Boehner is a drunk.

What is a stimulus? What is a good stimulus?

I’ve seen a lot of people supporting the President’s tax proposal in its entirety because certain parts of it are somewhat stimulative. What I’m hearing a lot of is that the tax cuts for the rich may not be a good stimulus, but nevertheless they are a stimulus and will stimulate the economy.

I disagree.

Data from FullChat’s diary this past August.

The purpose of a government-initiated stimulus is to pump money into the economy to make spending happen, which will result in people being hired, having money to spend, spending, etc.

Here we can see the stimulative effect that making the Bush tax cuts permanent, extending unemployment insurance, and (as a comparison) food stamps. I was unable to find any estimates of what sort of a stimulus lowering of inheritance tax for those who qualify might be. I suspect it would be even lower than extending the Bush tax cuts.

Photobucket

The most common way of interpreting stimulus effect is to simply compare the numbers. All stimulus is seen as good stimulus and worthwhile, even if the payback may be exponentially lower than some other program that was cut or passed by.

Another way of viewing the stimulus is as an investment in the economy. For this, we can look at the $1 returned for $1 invested mark as a break-even point. Where less than $1 was returned, we lost money. Where more than $1 was returned, we made a profit.

stimulus as investment

Money that was lost was taken out of the economy to pay off greedy rich people who were blackmailing us, deliberately preventing us from making sound investments. The money was poured into a black hole.

Now I personally do not think that throwing away $2 for every $1 we get back is a good investment, especially when that one dwarfs any temporary return we will get from extending unemployment insurance. Don’t forget, food stamps have already been cut in the future to fund other programs with lower returns.

But hey. Your mileage may vary.

Boneheaded Contrarianist Sarah Palin

Well of course now we have Republicans stampeding to oppose programs they previously supported, some of which they even created. Worst example of contrarianism goes to Sarah Palin, of course!

There was that little incident on that island off the Korean coast where North Korea and South Korea exchange fire and some people were killed. It has since been revealed that perhaps there was some kind of US involvement in some kind of shenanigans going on, besides which the war never ended, just an uneasy truce. But no matter. Of course the President would come out and announce that we are going to be fully supporting our allies in South Korea.

Doh.

So don’t you know sour dear former half-term governor of Alaska Sarah Palin just had to, had to contradict Obama. She has, after all, been getting some kind of coaching from that right wing extremist journalist in the Netherlands. I mean, I don’t think the guy is laundering money for her, she only has paid him $16K.

She has learned so much that she felt the confidence to contradict Obama herself, apparently without consulting anybody who knows anything about world politics. Yeah, she came out on the side of the North Koreans.

Honest mistake? Dishonest mistake? Freudian slip? You be the judge.
